Elementary School Libraries
The libraries at Frankfort, Searsport, and Stockton Springs Elementary Schools are staffed by one full-time Library Media Specialist and one part-time library Ed. Tech. All K-5 classes have scheduled weekly library classes where they receive instruction in information skills and participate in units designed to supplement and extend classroom curriculum. Technology integration and exploration is a major component in our Elementary Library and Information Skills curriculum.
We promote a love of reading through participation in The Chickadee Award and the Maine Student Book Award reading incentive programs. Both are state-wide “student choice” awards, advocating literacy and appreciation of quality literature for young readers.
Students at the Ames, Captain Albert W. Stevens, Drinkwater, East Belfast, Nickerson, and Weymouth School libraries are served by a K-5 Library Coordinator, a one-fifth library Ed. Tech, many volunteers, and classroom teachers.
Teacher and student needs are met through an active inter-library loan system, traveling media boxes that support areas of the curriculum, and Accelerated Reader books and quizzes.
